Create Child-Friendly City, Basuki Add More Public Spaces

Jakarta Governor, Basuki T. Purnama (Ahok), admitted Jakarta is still not friendly city for children. Solving the matter, his side keeps adding the number of Child-Friendly Public Space (RPTRA). There are 60 parks targeted to be done this year.

"Jakarta is less child-friendly. Sidewalk and park are poor. Many of children are drop ou from the school," he admitted, Wednesday (9/30).

In Indonesia, he added, no city has RPTRA like Jakarta. At this moment, six parks have been built, while the other 54 are being developed.

"It is not the usual park, but integrated park," he continued.

Tuty Kusumawati, Chairwoman of Gugus Tugas Jakarta Kota Layak Anak, explained the RPTRA has fulfilled 70-80 percent of 31 child-friendly city indicators. "The rest is fulfilled by Posyandu, PAUD (early childhood), and so on," she explained.

The six constructed RPTRA are Pulau Untung Jawa, Cililitan, Cideng, Sungai Bambu, Kembangan, and Gandaria Selatan.
