Press Inflation, City Urged to Maintain Staple Food Price

Jakarta Provincial Government was urged to maintain staple food price in traditional markets all over Jakarta. This way is needed to stabilize inflation in the city, that was 0.24 percent in last January.

"Jakarta government be aware of this. Maintaining staple food price in the market is very important to stabilize the inflation rate," said Head of Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Syech Suhaimi, Monday (2/1).

He furthered, last month, the inflation rate was 0.24 percent. The largest contributor to inflation coming from food commodity group which reached 1.8 percent. Commodity includes red chili, chicken meat, onion, rice and beef.

Besides that, other inflation contributors are from housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.33 percent, food 0.28 percent, fast food, beverage and tobacco 0.27 percent as well as health 0.24 percent.

"Jakarta is one of 75 cities in Indonesia that have inflation beginning in 2016 and is ranked 72nd from other cities," he uttered.
