Hot Weather, Beware of Fire

Due to high temperature in this recent weeks, Jakarta residents are asked to raise their awareness. Hot weather condition is potentially causing fire.

Jakarta Head Dept. of Fire and Disaster Handling, Subejo, said that compared to rainy season, summer has huge potential in causing fire.

"If there is someone thrown cigarette but carelessly, it will easily create fire," Subejo said at City Hall, Monday (4/14).

Considering this matter, Subejo asked the people to be more active preventing fire in each environment, including in dense populated area which mostly consists of semi-permanent buildings that easily burnt.

"Our agency had socialized how to threat fire and its early prevention. Residents ability increase well. It can be shown from lower fire disaster case in the city," he added.

In the other sides, Subejo explained, West Jakarta is the biggest number of fire disaster in Jakarta due to its dense populated area condition.

The most prone area in West Jakarta is Tambora Urban Village. The fire case in Tambora is continuously happen. There are many two-floors houses; the first floor wall is permanent, while the second floor is made from plywood or board wall. Those houses are untidy close to another.

"60 percent of fire cases were caused by electrical shorting. It could appear from broken electronic goods such as water dispenser, AC, television, etc," he stated.

Fire fighter often has difficulty extinguishing fire in dense populated area due to narrow road access.
