6 Dim-Lighted Stalls Burned, 3 Died and 2 Injured

Huge fire raged and burned six dim-lighted stalls, locally known as warung remang-remang, on Jalan Kramat Duri, RT 04/02, Bambu Apus Urban Village, Cipayung Sub-District, East Jakarta, Saturday (4/19). The fire that allegedly caused by electric short-circuit killed three people and injured two other residents.

The fire blazed at around 5.20 AM from one of the stalls and spread to other stalls in a short time. Later discovered the 6x24-meter stalls were owned by Raiwiyan Abdullah (60).

Tina (35), a local, said the fire quickly enlarged and shocked all residents. “At that moment, all residents were panic and scrambled outside their houses to save their lives,” she told.

According to Cipayung Sector Police Chief Comr. UA Triyono, the fire was finally extinguished at 5.50 AM. Because of the fire, three women are dead, namely (25), Yeini (21), and Dede a.k.a. Ade (27). “They were found dead in a bathroom. Allegedly, they were trapped by fire blaze until death,” he stated.

Besides three casualties, this incident also caused two people injured. They were rushed to clinic nearby. Unfortunately, Triyono does not know yet the identity of those two people because they are still under treatment. As for the bodies of the three casualties, they were found at 8.35 AM and have been evacuated to Kramatjati Police Hospital.

When the fire happened, there were no activities inside the burned stalls. At that time, the three women were sleeping. When they saw the fire blazing, they panic and took cover in the bathroom. Now, the police are collecting evidences and questioning some witnesses to reveal the cause of this incident.

Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department Operation Section, Mulyanto, told that five fire trucks were deployed to the scene. The firefighters had faced difficulties to reach the fire core due to narrow access to the location. “Temporary allegation, the fire was caused by electric short-circuit. But to make sure, the police are investigating this incident. One thing for sure is that when the fire happened, there were no activities in the location and all inhabitants were sleeping,” he uttered.
