3 RWs in Ciganjur Urban Village Inundated

A torrential rain that poured South Jakarta and its surrounding areas, has submerged three RWs as high as 90 centimeters after the Setu River, Ciganjur, Jagakarsa is overflowed.

There are at least three roads inundated. They are Jalan Meninjo, Jalan Kemenyan and Jalan Jangkrik.

Chairman of RT 08/05 Ciganjur, Taufik who live on Jalan Kemenyan said that water inundates citizen residential since 2.30 PM. Until 5 PM, inundation high is reaching 70 centimeters.

"The initial inundation level was 90 centimeters and now reduced to 70 centimeters. Usually it can recede quickly," he told, Tuesday (4/19).

He added, a 10-centimeter high inundation had hit citizen homes. This disaster is the first time.

Nevertheless, his side has set up a refugee camp at RT 08 and 011, but locals prefer to evacuate to their neighbors whose house is higher.

Ciganjur Urban Village Head, Muhammad Djumena disclosed, flood occurs because the land is in the basin and silting of Setu River thus cannot accommodate water in large quantities. Moreover, it is already about 20 years, the river has never been dredged.

"River narrowing is due to citizen, they built buildings there," he finished.
