Meningitis Boy Needs Rp 70 Million

A patient of poor family, Muhammad Fauzan Syahputra (11), a boy of Marzuki (40) and Sadiyeh (40) who suffers meningitis was refused by five five hospitals even though holding a National Health Insurance (JKN). Fauzan is finally treated in Royal Taruma Hospital, Grogol, West Jakarta.

In fact, Royal Taruma Hospital has no cooperation with JKN Social Security Management Agency (BPJS) of Health. Marzuki has to be helter skelter to cover his son treatment cost. Fortunately, his neighbors who live on Jalan Asem Raya, Gg E, RT 06/08, Duri Kepa, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, initiated gathering money for his son. Collected money in total is Rp 17 million.

According to Marzuki, resident's collected money now remained Rp 4 million. "I need at least Rp 70 million as surgery cost. I don't have much money since my income as porridge seller is Rp 30-60 thousand a day," he said, Thursday (5/8).

Marzuki worried because of doctor statement. Fauzan's brain infection can spread easily without surgery. "Now, my son's left eye is blind," he added.

Ali (40), Fauzan's uncle, said his nephew disease was detected a week ago because of chills. At Budi Kemuliaan Hospital, Central Jakarta, the doctor diagnosed that Fauzan got meningitis. The hospital was unable to take care of him because of limited medical equipments.

Fauzan's parents had tried visiting the other five hospitals such as Ciptomangunkusumo Hospital, Harapan Kita Mother and Children (RSAB) Hospital, Tarakan Local Hospital (RSUD), Fatmawati Hospital, and Hermina Hospital, East Jakarta. Unluckily, those hospitals refused Fauzan.

Meanwhile, West Jakarta Head Sub-dept. of Health, Widyastuti was unable to be contacted.

Kebon Jeruk Sub-district Headman, Mursidin, explained there should be no reason for hospital refusing poor patients. Local RT/RW caretaker must report this case to related institution, or directly to Governor and Vice Governor.

"I'll monitor my citizens who already have BPJS card but neglected by an hospital. For Fauzan, I have to provide coordination with related institution for his treatment," he stated.
