City Council Wants Purchase of British Embassy's Land to Be Studied

The City Council Budgetary Body (Banggar), wanted the planned purchase of an ex-land in British Embassy, HI Roundabout, Menteng to be studied.

The land is only about 5,000 meters and fund for its acquisition reaches Rp 500 billion

"The land is only about 5,000 meters and fund for its acquisition reaches Rp 500 billion. If it's focused on additional green open space (RTH), we can buy the larger one in another place," expressed Taufiqurrahman, Member of City Council Banggar, Monday (8/22).

Aside that, the location is deemed ineffective for green open space. This is because, the existing building inside cannot be torn down because it has historical value.

Ex-British Embassy Building Provided as Cultural Heritage

"People prefer do rally on the street. So the utility function should be studied again because it is big enough," he told.

City Secretary, Saefullah disclosed, the initial thought on the purchase of land as a site for people who want to express their aspirations. Moreover, HI Roundabout area is often used to rally.

"Therefore, the location is planned to be built as aspiration park. Previously, it was also exist in front of the Presidential Palace, so not on the street again," he disclosed.
