Sunter River Normalization, 200 Graves Relocated

200 graves in Public Cemeteries (TPU) Kampung Bayur, Cipinang Melayu, Makassar, East Jakarta, will be removed due to Sunter River normalization project.

We have got permission and approval from the heirs related to this grave relocation

Kampung Bayur TPU manager, Saroji, said that from one hectare land, of 3,000 meter acre will be taken to Sunter River normalization Project. As a result, 200 graves located in 15 meter away of Sunter River bank need to be relocated.

“We have got permission and approval from the heirs related to this grave relocation,” Saroji uttered, Friday (5/16).

City to Restore Sunter River’s Function

This hundreds of graves will be relocated far away from the bank river and has been started since Wednesday (5/14). “The grave relocation is predicted to take about 10 days,” Saroji said. 

To meet the resident’s demand location, his party has proposed City Parks and Cemeteries Department to add TPU land. “I have proposed it to the department to add the land as wide as 700-800 meter acre,” he revealed.

All heirs have been told about the demolition since two months ago from East Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Sub-Dept or Kampung Bayur TPU management. The demolition process is done by TPU management party, and they have prepared shroud and new grave stones for free.

Dias (22), a resident of Pondok Bambu, Duren Sawit, and also one of the heirs, admitted to not mind the relocation of his father’s grave as long as there is the substitute land. She agreed that the relocation is related to the Sunter River normalization program to overcome the flooding often hit Cipinang Melayu area.

“We are sincere, even more this is for Sunter River normalization to overcome the flood in our area,” explained Dias.
