Preoccupied by Incoming Call, an Old Man Died Hit by Train

Chairun Aldjoka (63) died instantly after got hit by Argo Gede Train at Pondok Kopi railway crossing, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, Tuesday (5/27), at around 7.30 AM. The accident happened because the victim did not aware the warnings of people and railway crossing guard officers about incoming train when crossing because he was on call.

When crossing, the victim was walking while speaking on the phone. The residents have shouted there was a train, but he did not hear it because of preoccupied by the call until he finally hit by the train

According Jeto (24), one of eyewitnesses, the victim was walking alone when he was about to cross the Pondok Kopi railway crossing. Due to on call, he was not paying attention when Jakarta-Surabaya Argo Gede Train speeding from west to east. The local residents have been shouting him repeatedly about the train, but the victim apparently did not hear it.

As a result, the accident was unavoidable. The victim was hit by the train and his body bounced for about 15 meters. His head injured and arms broken. The victim, a resident of Jalan Reformasi Raya No. 11A, RT 03/08, Pulogebang Urban Village, Cakung Sub-District, East Jakarta, died instantly at the scene.

“When crossing, the victim was walking while speaking on the phone. The residents have shouted there was a train, but he did not hear it because of preoccupied by the call until he finally hit by the train,” explained Jeto.

According to Duren Sawit Metro Sector Police Crime Unit Chief AKP Chalid Thayib, this incident is a pure train accident because there are no signs of mistreatment on the victim’s body. When found, the victim was already dead, lying on the railway side.

“This is pure train accident. For autopsy purposes, the victim’s body was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM),” stated Thayib.
