General Election, Foreign Tourist Visit Decreases by 8.64 Percent

The event of legislative election on April 9, 2014, seemed to have an impact to the visit of foreign tourists to the capital city. Based on Jakarta Statistics Central Board (BPS), there were only 186.373 foreign tourists visited Jakarta in April and 204.004 foreign tourists last month.

“There is decreasing of 8.64 percent,” said Head of Jakarta BPS, Nyoto Widodo, Tuesday (6/3).
According to Widodo, the decreasing of foreign tourist visit in April 2014 is the fourth time happened in the last four years.

The decrease is in line with foreign tourist visit to Indonesia from 765.607 visits in March to 726.332 visits in April, or decrease to 5.13 percent ,” he stated.However, if it is compared to foreign tourist visit in the same month of last year, the visit in April 2014 has an increase of 10.29 percent from three entrances, namely Soekarno–Hatta Airport, Tanjung Priok Port, and Halim Perdanakusumah Airport.
There are 10 countries who become the largest visitors to Jakarta in April, namely Malaysia 26,432 visits, China 17,575 visits, Japan 15,839 visits, Singapore 15,422 visits, Saudi Arabia 9,898 visits, South Korea 7,424 visits, USA 7,317 visits, India 6,760 visits, Australia 6,318 visits, and Netherland 5,383 visits. In total, there were 118,564 visits or 63.62 percent of total visit to Jakarta.
“It shows that the ten countries have important role to become the main markets of foreign tourism in Jakarta,” told Widodo.
