“There’s a lot of offense in Monas. What would the Monument become? There are many people selling like this. Want to make it like Tanah Abang for real?” said Basuki on the sidelines of handover ceremony of 30 TransJakarta buses donated by entrepreneurs, in Monas, Central Jakarta, Friday (6/6).
Basuki then rebuked Monas UPT security guards who were guarding the security around the venue. He requested Monas security officers to control street vendors as mandated by law No. 8/2007 on Public Order since the street vendors have been given a place to trade in ex IRTI Monas which located near deer cage on the east side of the monument.

If you want to live comfortably in Jakarta, you must be discipline. I am not trying to be a champion, but things must be orderly,” he asserted.
Based on
beritajakarta.com observations, the monument’s parking lot was already crowded by street vendors selling foods, toys, and clothing. Thus, the visitors were having trouble to get into the monument area because the gate was blocked by the street vendors. Similar condition also occurred inside the monument. In fact, after Basuki left the venue, the street vendors directly showcased their merchandises. On the hand, Monas UPT security officers only stood by, joking with fellow friends, and smoking.
