Public Transport per Kilometer Payment Review Involves Academics

PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) is going to review the plan of public transport payment in accordance with kilometer. Academics will be involved in the review of plan which aims to eliminate the bad habit of public transport drivers who often park their vehicles haphazardly that eventually causes traffic congestion in the capital city.

We’ll be cooperating with Jakarta Transportation Department, Transportation Center, UGM Logistics, and the academics

“The review will also relate to the management of non-TransJakarta bus public transportation. We’ll be cooperating with Jakarta Transportation Department, Transportation Center, UGM Logistics, and the academics,” stated PT Transjakarta Director, Antonious Kosasih, Saturday (6/7).

According to Kosasih, the deposit system applied all this time to regular public transports, that requires drivers to pay a fixed rental fee to bus operators every day, will be eliminated. Later, the payment will be adjusted to the kilometers traveled every day, which already applied to TransJakarta bus. With this system, it is expected there would be no more public transport drivers parking their vehicles haphazardly, thus traffic congestion in the capital city could be parsed.

City to Apply Per Kilometer Payment Rate

“If they (public transport drivers) wanted to use TransJakarta bus lanes or didn’t want to be caught in traffic, public transports must be paid per kilometer. That means the driver are prohibited to park haphazardly looking for passengers,” he uttered.

Kosasih stressed that his party does not want to be long in doing the review which planned to be conducted prior to Ramadan. In addition, PT Transjakarta will also look for other parties to join in the cooperation.

“If possible, we would like the hold cooperation before Ramadan,” he said.
