Ahead of the fasting month, 120 joint personnel of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department, Satpol PP, and City Police will tightly monitor the operational hour of entertainment venues in the capital city. During Ramadan, 446 of them must be closed.

Head of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department, Arie Budhiman, told there are 1,361 entertainment venues in Jakarta. From that amount, only 446 venues must be closed during Ramadan, such as nightclubs, discotheques, steam bath, massage parlors, chip machines, and night bars.

They can only open at 8.30 PM and closed at 1.30 AM.
Especially for particular days, those entertainment venues are prohibited to be operated, namely one day before Ramadan, first day of Ramadan, Nuzulul Qur’an’s Eve, as well as one day before Eid ul Fitr until the day after second day of Eid ul Fitr.
“So, the employees can do their worship well,” added Budhiman.
Other entertainment venues that are permitted to operate during Ramadan are hotel, motel, inn, resort, lodging, tourist boarding house, caravan, cottage, homestead, restaurant, food court, food service, bakery, travel agent, tour guide, meeting room, movie theater, bowling arena, skating arena, gymnastic, golf course, driving range, barbershop, swimming pool, zoo, art show, and fishing pond.
To ease the supervision, Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department will stick a sticker reads ‘Close’ for entertainment venues that must be closed during Ramadan and another sticker reads ‘Open’ for entertainment venues which operational hours regulated. If there were entertainment venues caught breaking the rules, they will be reprimanded or even sealed.
This policy refers to Bylaw No. 19/2004 about Tourism, Governor Decree No. 98/2004 about Operational Hour of Tourism Industry in Jakarta, and Circular Letter of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department Head No. 15/SE/2014 dated May 23, 2014.
