1,200 Participants and 30 Ornament Cars to Enliven Jakarnaval

Towards Jakarta’s 487th anniversary, Jakarta Provincial Government is again to hold Jakarnaval. This annual event will be held on upcoming Sunday (6/22), involving 1,200 people, five huge masks, and five traditional groups from Bali, Ponorogo, Surakarta, Indramayu, and East Kalimantan. In addition, the festival will also be enlivened with 30 ornament cars from a number of regional working units (SKPD).

For Jakarnaval’s preparation, Jakarta Culture and Tourism Department will coordinate with Jakarta Indonesian Carnival Association (AKARI). Later, there will be a workshop followed by 300 participants from cultural communities.

“Workshop participants will be getting guidance and assistance from professional teachers to make paper masks and costumes that will be used by each Jakarnaval participant,” explained Subaidah.

If last year’s Jakarnaval theme was ‘Miracle of Ondel’, the theme this year is ‘Miracle of Archipelago Masks’.
