Jakarta Provincial Government is going to recruit thousands of manpower to clean sewers and parks in the capital city. Later, they will be put in working unit under the instruction of Jakarta Public Works Department.

“We can absorb so many labors in the capital city, up to 20,000 people. So, later each area, for every several meters, there will be 1-2 workers to maintain sewers and parks. If the sewers needed to be dredged, they will dredge it. Not like now, the work of working unit is only sightseeing,” stated Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama at City Hall, Wednesday (7/2).

According to Basuki, the recruited manpower will become city government’s contract workers. They will be paid in accordance to Jakarta Province Minimum Wage (UMP), which is Rp 2.4 million per month. To realize the idea, he will consult it with the Presidential Working Unit for Development Supervision and Management (UKP4).

“I’ll tell about this idea tomorrow to UKP4 and LKPP (Government Procurement Regulatory Body). With system like this, we could get employees who are contracted individually to work on a road or in an area,” he said.

In addition, Basuki told that the performance of those thousands of recruited manpower will also be evaluated every month.

“You work or not, I still pay you. But if I checked the sewers and parks still dirty, I’ll fire you. You’re not employee anyway, only individual contract. Later, RT/RW chiefs as well as urban village and sub-district heads will report their performances using safety pin,” he uttered.
