Sandi Closes Groundwater Well at His House

Jakarta Vice Governor, Sandiaga Uno continues to stop groundwater usage campaign to Jakartans. One of its realization is to close groundwater wells at his house on Jalan Pulombangkeng, Selong, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta and switch to use water piping.

At least we start it from ourselves first

He admitted that previously he used groundwater. But after he checked his septic tank, he found a leak and e-coli bacteria has contaminated groundwater in his house.

"Because of that, I switch to use water pipping. If office has started to use water pipe, it means at home also. I said to Mr. Erlan (PAM Jaya Director) to start it from my house. It must be run now, thus we cut the groundwater pipe completely," he stated.

Governor Wants to Ensure All Multi Story Buildings to Obey Rules

According to him, this is the follow-up from his last visit to Tokyo, Japan. He explained the city experienced a drastic land subsidence in 1960 due to excessive groundwater usage.

"At least we start it from ourselves first. So we need to change," he expressed.

He determines to encourage his neighbors, families, and residents to follow his action. One of his effort is to distribute pamphlets that urge people to stop use groundwater.

In that chance, PAL Jaya Director, Subekti explained, his side has checked septic tank at Sandi's house. Its groundwater has been contaminated by 10 thousand e-coli bacteria per 100 cc due to septic tank leakage.

"Whereas, its standard is only tolerate 3,000 e-coli bacteria," he stated.

Meanwhile, PAM Jaya Director, Erlan Hidayat hopes groundwater well closing action which is done by Sandi, could inspire people for not using groundwater anymore.

"We are ready to serve people who want to use PAM water," he said.
