Gas Pipe Leaks, 40 Buildings Having Power Outage

The leak of gas pipe belongs to PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, precisely in front of City Police Headquarter, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (7/16) night, has made gas lane in Dukuh Atas had to be temporarily closed. As a result, 40 buildings around the location are having power outage.

40 of our customers are having power outage since last night due to gas pipe leakage. The gas pipe is located in the sewer which lane closed from Dukuh Atas

“40 of our customers are having power outage since last night due to gas pipe leakage. The gas pipe is located in the sewer which lane closed from Dukuh Atas. Those 40 buildings are houses, hotels, and office buildings,” told Head of PT PGN Communication Department, Ridha Ababil, Thursday (7/17).

Moreover, Ababil denies that the leakage caused explosion. According to him, the gas pipe leaked because of low-pressure fiber optics installation. About the flame near the location, he assumed it happened because there was someone smoking.

“Now there is only smoke. There was no explosion because the one that leaked was low-pressure pipe,” he stated.

Ababil also complained about underground infrastructures which are not well-arranged. This is because Jakarta Provincial Government has not had underground lane mapping which used for several necessities, such as cables of State Electric Company (PLN), water pipes of PAM Jaya, and gas pipes of PGN.

“That is because there is no special lane. Thus, we cannot predict, though we continuously done checking,” he said.

In the future, Ababil hopes for Jakarta Provincial Government to be able to arrange underground infrastructures. So, PT PGN would be able to rent and gain income for city government.

“We will pay rent if there were special lanes. That would be good for Jakarta Provincial Government’s revenue. The problem yesterday was trivial, (the pipe leaked) only because of hit by shovel. But, the effects were many. Our clients become not able to use gas for electricity,” he uttered.
