Cipinang Besar Selatan has Non-Smoking Village

Residents of RT15/02 Cipinang Besar Selatan Urban Village, Jatinegara, East Jakarta have committed to create their urban village as Non-Smoking Village. Residents who are proven to smoke outside and inside their house will be sanctioned.
Actually non-smoking area program has been implemented from last year
Based on Beritajakarta.id observation on Tuesday (5/15), this urban village is located beside Cipinang River and has been arranged beautifully since resident houses are painted colorfully. Stickers with size 10x5 cm are installed in each doors and walls and written "Thank you for not smoking in this area".
Jatinegara Sub-district Head, Nasrudin Abu Bakar said, previously this settlement is a slump area. Last year, his side and residents have

In these last months, residents tightened the rules. Those who violate the rules will be sanctioned by its community. Thus residents form its owned 'police' to monitor residents activities everyday.
According to him, this is the first non-smoking village in Jakarta. Recently, other regions also conduct comparative study, such as from Marunda, Rorotan, and Cilincing Urban Villages, North Jakarta.
Nobby Sail A. S. (24), local resident added, before his side decided to make his urban village into non-smoking village, residents conducted comparative study to Code River Village amd Umbul Rahardjo, Jogjakarta. Those areas have its own uniqueness as colorful village and non-smoking village.
"We review it in depth through comparative study result. Then, we are agreed to paint residents houses with different colors," he added.
Previously there are pro and contra in this program. But lately, residents start to receive it and support it fully. In recent two months, sanctions have been imposed for those who violate the rules. Every violators who are proven smoking must be fined based on the cigarette's pack price. Collected fines in RT Head will be used to buy paint.
"Male smokers will be reprimanded by women and vice versa to prevent tensity between residents. But, until today it runs well and the violators are willing to pay the agreed fine. Residents who want to smoke are prepared smoking area located near bridge," he explained.
