Prior to Pilpres Result Announcement, Jakarta is Conducive

Prior to the announcement of the 2014 presidential election result by General Election Commission (KPU), Tuesday (7/22), the situation in Jakarta is reportedly safe based on the monitoring done in several locations by the police and TNI. In addition, the discourse of masses to hold demonstration is also predicted would not happen in large scale.

As anticipation efforts, the police are securing some vital objects by deploying 1,500 policemen. Among the vital objects secured are KPU office, Muara Karang Steam Power Plant (PLTU), Plumpang and Koja Pertamina Depot, and some other economic centers.
City Police Chief Ins. Gen. Dwi Priyatno stated that based on the monitoring done at KPU office, Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout, and several shopping centers, Jakarta’s situation is safe. Because of that, he believes the result which will be announced at 4 PM would run smooth.
Presidential Election in East Jakarta Runs Conducive“The situation in KPU as well as some economic center locations is relatively safe. There are no terror threats. We believe that this conducive situation would last until the announcement finished,” he uttered.
Regarding the plans of mass elements from both presidential candidates to hold demonstration, Priyatno admitted that he is not that much of worry there would be clash. This is because after being monitored, there were only 75 people gathered.
While about the discourse to mobilize masses from outside Jakarta, the police will implement tight security measures. Personnel will be deployed at some city’s entry points to conduct searching.
“You can hold demonstration, but we only allow it until ring III at HI Roundabout. If demonstrators insisted to enter ring I area, we’ll take action,” he asserted.
