Senen Sterilized from Street Vendors’ Stalls

Hundreds of street vendors’ stalls around Senen Market, Central Jakarta, which all this time making the area chaotic and causing traffic congestion, were finally demolished by Senen Sub-District Satpol PP, Friday (8/1). From this operation, remnant of the stalls and tens of banners were loaded into two trucks.

Head of Senen Sub-District, Lola Lovita, said the operation has been started on Wednesday (7/29) and will be carried out until Senen Market area sterile from street vendors’ activities. “In accordance to City Secretary’s instruction, Senen Market area must be sterile from street vendors, because their existence is making chaotic and taking public’s rights,” she stated.

To make sure there is no more street vendor selling on roadside or sidewalk, Lovita continued, as many as 20 Satpol PP personnel deployed searched through the area. “The operation went safe. There was no resistance (from the street vendors),” she told.

Street Vendors’ Stalls on Jalan Bendungan Melayu Demolished

Besides demolishing street vendors’ stalls, Lovita informed that the operation team was also removing tens of banners that do not have permit. “We also painted Senen Flyover to make it not slum,” she added.

According to Lovita, all of the goods resulted from the operation are brought to Satpol PP warehouse in Cakung, East Jakarta.
