Motorcycle Thievery Rampant in Pulogebang Flat
Reported by Nurito | Translated by Rini Elvira
The occupants of Pulogebang Flat, Cakung, East Jakarta, are questioning the performance of the flat management on security system matters. The reason is because since the beginning of fasting month of Ramadan last month, six motorcycles belong to flat occupants were stolen. Whereas, the flat management is charging each flat occupant with security fee for Rp 10-20 thousand.
A total of six motorcycles were stolen in a month. We have routinely paid monthly security fee but thievery still happens. We feel uncomfortable living there
“A total of six motorcycles were stolen in a month. Most of the cases happened in Block C and D. Another motorcycle was also nearly stolen. Its key had been damaged by the thief, but the residents caught him. But, he managed to escape from the mass who chased him. We have routinely paid monthly security fee but thievery still happens. We feel uncomfortable living there,” expressed Sherly (54), Pulogebang Flat occupant in Block C, Wednesday (8/6).
This rampant case of motorcycle thievery has been reported to Pulogebang Police Post. Unfortunately, its development is going nowhere. Because of that, Pulogebang Flat occupants hope the police would catch the thieves soon. They also urge Jakarta Public Housing and Government’s Buildings Management Department to tighten the security system in their flat.
Criminal Rates in the City Predicted to IncreaseResponding this matter, Head of Region III Flat Management Unit for Jakarta Public Housing and Government’s Buildings Management Department, Jefyodya Julyan, admitted has received information on the rampant case of motorcycle thievery in Pulogebang Flat. He also acknowledged that the flat does not have enough security officers. At this time, there are only 13 security officers guarding the flat every day. Thus, he promised to improve its security system.
“The amount of our security officers is indeed very low. That’s why we ask the residents to guard the neighborhood together, for instance by holding neighborhood watch routinely,” he stated.
