Street Vendors Outside Lokomotif Market Complained by Legal Traders

Traders in Lokomotif Market, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, are complaining the rampant existence of street vendors selling in front of the market. Because of those street vendors, the income of legal traders inside the market becomes decreasing significantly.

Moreover, the street vendors are selling their goods cheaper than legal traders because they do not have to pay for kiosk rent. As a result, many kiosks in here are deserted and some traders even go bankrupt

Gio (47), one of the legal traders in Lokomotif Market, said the buyers are reluctant to go inside the market because the street vendors outside are selling the same things sold by the traders inside the market.

“Moreover, the street vendors are selling their goods cheaper than legal traders because they do not have to pay for kiosk rent. As a result, many kiosks in here are deserted and some traders even go bankrupt. We begged for those street vendors to be controlled, please,” he expressed, Wednesday (8/6).

Responding this matter, Head of Lokomotif Market, Agus Darmanto, stated that indeed the street vendors outside the market are causing 34 legal traders inside the market deserted from buyers. Thus, he promised to raid those street vendors soon.

“Actually, we still have vacant space inside the market where the street vendors could fill it in. We have proposed it to them, but they refused,” he uttered.
