Withdraw Official Cars, City Could Save Rp 250 Billion

The plan to withdraw civil servants’ official cars keeps being reviewed. If it was realized, Jakarta Provincial Government could save budget up to Rp 250 billion.

We calculated that we could save budget up to Rp 250 billion because there is no (budget for cars) maintenance

“We’re lucky as well. We calculated that we could save budget up to Rp 250 billion because there is no (budget for cars) maintenance,” stated Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama, Monday (8/11).

Moreover, Basuki disclosed that for civil servants’ operational, Jakarta Provincial Government will not buy vehicles but rent them from private party instead.

PNS’ Official Cars Withdrawn, Exchanged with Transportation Allowance

“We’ll rent all. If there were damages, the replacement is quick. So, the pattern used is private’s pattern,” he told.

By changing the scheme of official cars procurement for civil servants, the replacement for civil servants is they will be getting transportation allowance.

“We offer all civil servants, which one do you choose? We rent cars for you or you take the transportation allowance?” he said.

According to Basuki, some officials in Jakarta Provincial Government now have used public transports to go to the office. Among them are Head of Jakarta Development Planning Board Andi Baso and Head of Jakarta Transportation Department Muhammad Akbar.

“If you were Mr. Akbar, would you like to have a Corolla Altis which maintenance cost is dozens of millions of rupiah? There is depreciation of all kinds. Or, would you take Rp 9 million in cash? Why would you have Corolla at home but never use it? Better you get Rp 9 million every month, right,” he expressed.
