City Asked to Build New KIR Test Places

The Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) did a sudden inspection to the Motor Vehicle Testing (PKB) Ujung Menteng or vehicle road-worthiness test (KIR), Cakung, East Jakarta, Wednesday (8/19). On that occasion, 5 DTKJ members were immediately checking the service system, ranging from admission counter, vehicle queue until kir test area.

The kir test is crowded by vehicle up to 600 vehicles. At 9 AM, the PKB Ujung Menteng's gate has been closed and outside vehicles asked to line up in order to prevent traffic congestion.
KIR Test Crowded, Jalan Raya Bekasi Still CongestedDTKJ Head, Edi Nur Salam disclosed the kir test at PKB Ujung Menteng is dense. There are only available three lanes which have 9 test equipments. Ideally, every lane serves only 70 vehicles per day, thus its total reaches 210 vehicles. At this time, the number of vehicles tested on Tuesday reached 600 vehicles.
"Our recommendation, the city should seriously prepare the KIR equipments. Totally, we only have 7 KIR equipment lanes, 8 other lanes do not work. Ideally, the city must have 22 lanes for KIR test, thus vehicle surge can be prevented," he told, Tuesday (8/19).
According to him, vehicle queue in the PKB Ujung Menteng is the impact of the closure of PKB Kedaung, West Jakarta. That is why, the city needs more KIR test places.
"The city must build a new building for kir test soon. There are only 8 unemployed equipements and they can be repaired to be used to handle the vehicle surge. They can be installed in big terminals and also be used for kir test for bus," he said.
Meanwhile, Chief of East Jakarta Resort Police Traffic Unit, AKBP Supoyo uttered to parse congestion in front of the PKB Ujung Menteng, 30 officers are deployed and divided into three shift. "Congestion is severe, the kir participants already lined up since at 1 AM. If we do not manage the traffic, congestion could be paralyzed. After being parsed, congestion can be managed at 8 AM," he reported.
