Petojo Utara Residents Grow Fruits at Krukut Riverbank

Krukut Riverbank is used by RT 03/03 Petojo Utara residents, Gambir, Central Jakarta to grow fruits in pots (Tabulampot). Local residents were initiative to make the area become greener by starting to grow fruits in pots since 2016. Then this action is supported by Central Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-department.

We also use 10 meters land of Krukut Riverbank to grow 20 medicinal plants

"At first, Central Jakarta KPKP Sub-department gave eight fruit trees of mango and guava," stated Susanto Medan, RT 03/03 Head, Tuesday (3/12).

Krukut will Be Transformed Into Urban Forest

According to him, Central Jakarta KPKP Sub-department gradually supports his residents to make the area greener by giving variety of fruit plants in 60 pots to the residents. Residents then put it along 300 meters of Krukut Riverbank. There are curly chili, guava, mango, and fig. His side also tries to plant five pots of red grape.

"We also use 10 meters land of Krukut Riverbank to grow 20 medicinal plants. There are pecah beling plants, longevity spinach, and moringa," he said.

One of the residents called Sulistya (75) feels grateful for this green space. "I can use it as medicine. I routinely consume longevity spinach to lower my blood pressure," she said.
