Basuki Chooses Sarwo Handayani as His Vice

Following the Constitutional Court (MK) decision that determines Joko Widodo as the elected Indonesia president for period of 2014-2019, the position of Jakarta governor is automatically replaced by Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama. To fill in his position, Basuki admitted that the official he prefers is Deputy Governor for Development, Sarwo Handayani.

“That is up to the party, but I required someone that is honest and willing to work hard. If the person didn’t want to work hard, we’re drive (working) from morning until evening like this, we could be having clash,” he told, Friday (8/22).

Moreover, Basuki wants his vice someone with experiences as an executive leader and has anti-corruption spirit.

“Abraham Lincoln said that one’s character is tested if he/she was given power. How could I know your character if you never sat on executive position?” he said.

Basuki also asks the public to learn and assess the life style and character of his future vice.

“The important thing is that you are tested and has honest character. Can you prove your wealth? Don’t just have Richard Mille watch but not paying tax accordingly. That is for instance,” he uttered.

About Sarwo Handayani, Basuki considers him as a hard worker.

“He is a hard worker, honest, and dedicated. If I may, I would choose him as my vice,” stated Basuki.
