19 Civil Servants Demoted For Drug Use

19 of 500 civil servants of Public Works Department have positively consumed marijuana and sedative. We know this through test process

As many as 19 civil servants of Jakarta Public Works Department were positively consuming drug type marijuana after they underwent a test against 533 civil servants held by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). As a sanction, those will be given a penalty, either demotion until dismissal.

Jakarta Vice Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama disclosed besides the 19 civil servants are including echelon-I and IV which is equivalent to section head level. "19 of 500 civil servants of Public Works Department have positively consumed marijuana and sedative. We know this through test process," he stated, City Hall, Friday (9/5).

He asserted sanction that will be given is ranging from demotion to dismissal. Of the 19 civil servants, some of them consumed sedative. However, it must be proved by a doctor's prescription. If there is no doctor's prescription, it can be indicated as user.

"I have told Mr. Made (Head of Regional Employment) to demote them as staff. Honorary We will do demotion and dismissal for civil servants and honorary workers who use drug. It would be done, if we saw them use it again. No tolerance," he asserted.

According to him, a similar test will be held in other regional working units (SKPD). Basuki admitted he is often seeing his men using the drug, thus he asked the BNN to uncover it. Moreover, during the inspection process on September 1, two civil servants were reluctant to be questioned. That is why he suspected both use drug on Saturday and Sunday. Then on Wednesday, they only want to be questioned by BNN.

"They're smart, using drug on Saturday-Sunday. Then they fled during the inspection on Monday. Yet they were negative when undergoing test on Wednesday," he exclaimed.

Head of Jakarta BNN's Prevention Section, Sapari Partodihardjo disclosed inspection against civil servants of Public Works Department is a request from Basuki. Besides Public Works Department, three other SKPDs also have checked, such as Satpol PP, Transportation Departemnt, and Tourism Department. Yet, its result was not yet known.

"We did at the request of Mr. Ahok. Recommendation has been delivered, and sanction is the authority of Mr. Ahok," he finished.
