Council Supports Additional Bike Lanes in Jakarta

Cycling is not just a hobby, but it must be made into culture

Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) is supporting the Jakarta Provincial Government's policy in adding bike lanes in the capital.

Jakarta DPRD Member Abdul Ghoni said it is an important part of stimulating transportation culture in a new era in parsing congestion and improving air quality.

"We really appreciate it, especially for South Jakarta area as a transportation integrated means with other public transportation modes, including the MRT," he expressed, Tuesday (10/15).

Another council member Yuke Yurike expressed facilities and infrastructures to support security and comfort for cyclists should be a concern.

"It must be sterile from motorbike riders, don't anyone break through," she explained.

Aside that, the city needs to facilitate various bike user facilities and complete various integrated infrastructures to make it as an alternative culture in reducing pollution and congestion.

"Cycling is not just a hobby, but it must be made into culture. Besides the availability of good facilities, we must also intensify socialization," she stressed.
