Jatinegara Barat Flat Occupants Trained to Make Typical Betawi Woven Fabrics

As many as 20 occupants of Jatinegara Barat Flat Tower, East Jakarta were trained to make typical Betawi woven fabrics through Jakarta National Handicraft Council (Dekranasda). It will be held for 23 days and aims to increase citizens' independence.

Various Betawi icons are made in this training, namely Ondel-ondel, Monas, gigi balang and so on

Jakarta Dekranasda Competitiveness Division Vice Chairwoman Elisabeth Ratu R stated the handicrafts results would be curated and then marketed at each bazaar or exhibition event.

She explained this weaving practice takes a little time, as patience is needed in stringing threads one by one into woven fabrics with various motives.

Disabled Students Get Computer Training

"Various Betawi icons are made in this training, namely Ondel-ondel, Monas, gigi balang and so on," she expressed, Tuesday (11/5).

After the training, a community of people will be formed where the assistant instructor will continue to monitor them.

"Our target is each flats has their own products. The products price that is marketed worth Rp 500,000 to millions of rupiah, depending on the level of difficulty and the length of the fabric" she stressed.
