City Participates in Chinese New Year Celebration in Jakarta

Jakarta Provincial Government through Education and Mental Spirituality (Dikmental) Bureau built cooperation with administrators of Chinese associations and religious organizations to celebrate Chinese New Year (Imlek) 2571 in several places of Jakarta.

Jakarta Dikmental Bureau Head, Hendra Hidayat stated, from the meeting with administrators of Chinese associations and religious organizations, they are agreed to hold events to enliven Imlek in parts of Jakarta.

"Our purpose is to bring the festive celebrations at public spaces in order to realize the equality and fraternity," he mentioned, Monday (1/20).

Ahead of Chinese New Year, Glodok Starts to Get Crowded with Merchants

He informed, events to celebrate Imlek will be started from January 15 to February 8.

Here are the events that will be held in Jakarta;

January 15 - February 5 : Chinese Food Culinary at Thamrin 10

January 23 - January 26 : Barongsai performance, Tanjidor, Gambang Kromong and Potehi Puppet (Wayang) performance in different locations, such as Thamrin 10, Dukuh Atas Park, in front of Grand Hyatt, and during Car Free Day along Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin.

February 8 : Cap Go Meh that will be held simultaneously in three different locations; Petak IX, Kampung Duri, and Jatinegara.

"In this collaboration, Jakarta Government participates in decorating four MRT stations and Transjakarta bus shelters in Lebak Bulus, Dukuh Atas, and Bundaran HI with Chinese New Year ornaments," he explained.

Moreover, he added, Thamrin 10 will be decorated with lanterns made by students in Jakarta.
