KPKP Agency Continues to Stabilize Price of Chili

The Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency has made various efforts to maintain the stability of chili prices, which is one of the commodities that trigger inflation.

It is done by coordinating with the Cabenisation Program through planting chilies on lands spread over settlements, including lands belong to the Jakarta Provincial Government.

"To maintain stock, it is also maximized through Perumda Pasar Jaya's CAS machine. Additionally, they also entered into Farming Contracts with Gapoktan in regions producing chili centers, namely Blitar, Magelang, Kediri and Subang," he expressed, Tuesday (1/21).

Chili is now one of the food commodities whose stocks are declining and their prices are increasing from day to day.

In details, the price of red chili at Kramat Jati Market has reached Rp 62,000/kg, big red chili (TW) Rp 62,000/kg and curly red chili Rp 42,000/kg.

"It is higher at the retail level of red cayenne pepper at Rp 80,000/kg, big red chili (TW) Rp 75,000/kg and curly red chili Rp 67,000/kg," he asserted.

He explained the decline in supply and price hikes occurred in various regions due to the influence of last year's long dry season and heavy rains in early 2020, thus some chili-producing lands damaged.

Aside that, most of the chili-producing centers have also passed through Harvest Kingdom. Hence, the agency and entrepreneurs continue to look for sources of chili supply. The Agriculture's Food Security Agency Ministry is also involved to assist in securing the supply and price of chili in Jakarta.

"We keep encouraging the community for more eating dried chili," he said.
