Formula E Postponement in Jakarta Gets Appreciation

Its decision shown a caring attitude to the health and safety of the community rather than seeking economic benefits

Jakarta Provincial Government's decision to postpone the Formula E electric motorsports championship amid the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak was appreciated by Jakarta DPRD Vice Chairwoman Zita Anjani.

"Its decision shown a caring attitude to the health and safety of the community rather than seeking economic benefits. I really appreciate it," she expressed, Thursday (3/12).

Surely, she added, it will affect the economic and tourism sectors in Jakarta. However, it also experienced in other major cities that were affected.

"The index value of the countries' shares in the world also dropped five to six percent. So the impact doesn't only happen in Indonesia but globally," she explained.

As for the information, the Formula E that was initially scheduled to take place on June 6, 2020 in Jakarta had to be postponed. This decision was taken after intensive communication with various stakeholders including the International Automotive Federation (FIA) located in Europe, which delivered, by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan during a press conference at Great Hall, Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (3/11) yesterday.

The governor and its ranks continue to monitor the spread of coronavirus in the world. Moreover Formula E was an activity attended by international tourists. Surely it was very risky for Jakarta people.

"We want our people to be safe. Alhamdulillah the Formula E and FIA organizers have agreed on our decision," he told.
