Dozens of illegal buildings on the banks of Kalibaru, Jalan Otista III, Cipinang Cempedak, Jatinegara, East Jakarta are about to be demolished . The buildings existence which are used as food stall, phone counter, and grocery store is assessed to be the cause of flooding in the area.

Head of East Jakarta Public Works Sub-department for Water System, Hendry Dunant, said his side has done socialization to the building owner by involving Cipinang Cempedak Urban Village.

"We have done socialization in the urban village office building to the owner to demolish the building by themselves. Or we'll done the demolition next week," said Dunant, Wednesday (10/1).

Head of Cipinang Cempedak Urban Village, Ali Mansyu Siregar, stated, socialization have been conducted a month ago especially for RW 07 and 08 citizens who live in Kalibaru banks. He admitted that 40 illegal buildings are exactly stand on the riverbanks. Moreover, half of them protrudes into riverbank which has 5-6 meters of wide.

"The residents also ask for a new bridge and demolish the old one. It is because the old bridge position is too low, so the waste often gets stuck," Mansyur stated.

Recently, the condition of Kalibaru that across RW 07 and 08 is experiencing silting. This condition is used by residents to cultivation and breeding ducks and birds.
