Here are Sanctions for KBRL Violators

Administrative sanctions could be imposed to the business owners who do not comply with KBRL policy.

But for now, Jakarta Government will focus on educating residents before imposing administrative sanctions. It is done to ensure all business owners comply with the policy.

Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency Head, Andono Warih explained, his side could impose administrative sanctions in form of warning, fines, business permit suspension or even revocation.

"Business owners in shopping centers, convenience stores, or traditional markets who deliberately provide disposable plastic shopping bags in their trading places will be subjected to administrative sanctions in form of written warning," he stated, Wednesday (1/7).

According to him, written warning will be given until three times. First written warning validity is 14x24 hours, the second is 7x24 hours, and the third is 3x24 hours.

If the violators do not heed the third written warning within 3x24 hours, then they will be fined in stages starting from Rp 5,000,000 until Rp 25,000,000.

"If they late to pay, the fine will be increased by Rp 5,000,000 every 7 days," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, he added, for business owners who do not pay administrative fines within 5 weeks, then his side will suspend their business operation.

"We will revoke their business permit if they can't pay the fines after being suspended," he conveyed.

He informed, the fines are paid via Bank DKI. While business permit revocation and suspension are conducted by Jakarta Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service (PMPTSP) Agency based on recommendation from Jakarta LH Agency.

"Please remember that paying off the fine doesn't mean they can be free from obligation to provide eco-friendly shopping bags. They still need to provide it," he closed.
