Tidung Ceria RPTRA Develops Catfish Farming Amid the Pandemic

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, catfish farming activities are still carried out by administrators of Tidung Ceria Children-Friendly Integrated Public Space (RPTRA), Tidung Island, South Thousand Islands.

While taking care of RPTRA facilities and infrastructures, we also cultivate catfish in a pond

According one of Tidung Ceria RPTRA administrators, Fauziah, the catfish farming is carried out in a pond with size around 2 x 3 meters to fill their spare time when RPTRA activities are still closed to the public due to COVID-19.

"While taking care of RPTRA facilities and infrastructures, we also cultivate catfish in a pond," she mentioned, Monday (7/20).

Locals Utilize Krukut Riverbank for Catfish Farming

The catfish farming has been carried out since November 2019 and the first harvest was in February 2020.

"That time, we could harvest around 50 kilograms catfish. Some of it were sold while we distributed the remaining to the poor people," she explained.

She informed, in each catfish farming period it takes around 3 months to harvest.

"We start the third farming in May by cultivating 1,500 catfish fingerlings. It will be harvested in August," she said.
