JakWiFi, as a Bridge for UMKM to Expand Products

Jakarta Industry Trade Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) Sub-agency positively welcomes a JakWiFi program which provides free wifi at thousands of points in Jakarta area in a bid to improve the quality of public services.

Jakarta PPKUKM Agency Acting Head Andri Yansyah said its existence aimed to expand internet access for the needs of the community which covers many sectors, one of which is the economy/business.

According to him, it could support the micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) in the lokbin, loksem, Pujasera in promoting and marketing their products via online massively.

"We have to take advantage of technology to market products via social media, cooperated startups and other marketplaces. By so the JakWiFi facilitates micro entrepreneurs, especially Jakpreneur, to market their products," he expressed, Wednesday (9/2).

He went on to say that their income would increase as their product spreads widely among the people. Moreover, accessing the internet was free.

"Surely I support this breakthrough that can help them market their products online," he stressed.

As for the information, there are currently 4,956 access points, which are being upgraded gradually. It is targeted to reach 9,000 points for two months ahead.

It is realized through three schemes, namely through Jakarta Provincial Government's services in government buildings, parks, RPTRAs, public schools and areas where free internet service providers are not accessible or are not in demand.

The city collaborates through sharing access points with telecommunications service providers and providing access points through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs. So people can check the location of the access point and its expansion using the JAKI (Jakarta Kini) app.
