President Inauguration, 24,815 TNI/Police Personnel Deployed

As many as 24,815 TNI/police personnel will be deployed to guard the capital city during the inauguration process of Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla as President and Vice President on upcoming October 20. Besides guarding MPR/DPR/DPD building on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, those personnel will also standby around the State Palace, protocol streets where ministry offices located, economic centers, and other vital objects.

In this activity, we use two types of guard, namely VVIP and VIP target object and the one related to society security and order (kamtibmas)

Jakarta Army Chief May. Gen. Agus Sutomo said that his party will help the police to guard the capital city. From Kodam Jaya alone, as many as 16,000 personnel will be deployed. From that amount, the core team is just 4,200 personnel.

“In this activity, we use two types of guard, namely VVIP and VIP target object and the one related to society security and order (kamtibmas),” he stated, Friday (10/17).

Meanwhile, City Police Chief Ins. Gen. Unggung Cahyono uttered that his party gives freedom to the citizens who want to hold demonstration during president inauguration. However, the action must get permit first from the police. Moreover, the protesters must also discipline and do no anarchy in their action.

“We, from the City Police, still hold Mantab Brata Jaya 2014 operation which assisted by Indonesian Police Headquarter and Kodam Jaya,” he told.

According to Cahyono, all on guard policemen are not equipped with gun fire because they only act as guarding officers. However, they will be equipped with teargas and water cannon.
