Dry Season, Parks in West Jakarta Damaged

Ongoing drought this year has made parks in West Jakarta suffered severe damages. Due to this condition, many trees and grass are dead, and the soil in the parks is cracking. Among those damaged parks are located on Jalan Tubagus Angke in Grogol Petamburan, DPR Complex in Palmerah, and Jalan Selam in Cengkareng.

“The prolonged dry season in Jakarta has damaged parks,” told Head of West Jakarta Parks Sub-Department, Djauhar, Sunday (10/19).

All this time, Djauhar continued, his department has tried to maintain the parks and green belts in West Jakarta by sending officers to water the plants. However, the effort is suboptimal due to lack of water tank trucks.

“In accordance to budget this year as much as Rp 20 billion, we’re going to repair 16 damaged parks in West Jakarta starting this month. The parks repaired are not only chosen based on monitoring done by the officers, but also based on reports from the residents,” he stated.

While for next year’s program, Djauhar added, his department will repair 30 parks and green belts with budget Rp 58 billion.

“We have recorded the data of parks and green belts to be maintained next year. Hopefully it could be approved,” he said.
