The Thousand Islands Regency administration together with police and army, conducted a patrol boat in the waters off North Thousand Islands Sub-district, on Monday (12/7) to prevent illegal rampant illegal fishing.
Thousand Islands Satpol PP's civil investigators (PPNS) Division Head Sugiri disclosed, during the patrol, five fishing vessels were caught breaking the rules around the waters of Harapan and Kelapa islands.

"They do fishing illegal, we give a warning and will be followed up if there is similar violation in the future," he expressed.
He explained those five vessels had a voyage certificate of 60 miles, which meant that the fishing location should be done away from residential islands.
In the meantime, Kelapa Island Urban Village Government Division Head Muslim added, fishermen and local residents were disturbed by the presence of those vessels around the marine protected area and FADs belonging to residents.
"Prevention efforts must be made to protect marine life and corals in North Thousand Islands, as well as enforce the law in the waters of the Thousand Islands," he stated.
