1,500 Trees in South Jakarta Trimmed

To anticipate fallen tree in rainy season, South Jakarta Parks Sub-Department trimmed 1,500 trees spread in ten sub-districts in the municipality. This work is conducted to prevent victims and minimize the material loss if fallen trees happened because of gale.

“To anticipate rainy season, we have trimmed about 1,500 trees in a month,” stated Head of South Jakarta Parks Sub-Department, Marfuah, Monday (11/3).
According to Marfuah, the trees trimmed were mostly angsana trees with many branches and leafy. By trimming its branches and leaves, a tree’s burden while moving because of the wind would decrease.
Sunter River Culverts Clogged“The more lush, a tree’s burden will be heavier. So, we reduce their burdens so those trees would not fell when hit by strong wind,” she explained.
In addition, Marfuah disclosed that since October 2013 Until March 2014 as many as 144 trees have fallen in the municipality. As for the locations in South Jakarta that are prone to fallen trees, they are Kebayoran Baru, Cilandak, Mampang, Permata Hijau, Arteri Pondok Indah, and Mampang.
“About 50 percent of fallen trees happened in Kebayoran Baru,” she said.
