Arriving at Sabira Island, Anies Emphasizes Fulfillment of Basic Needs

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and his staff, ended a series of visits to the Thousand Islands by leaning back and looking at Sabira Island, the outermost island of the Thousand Islands and the farthest administrative area from Jakarta Province.

Today, we are back to visit Sabira Island

When arriving at Sabira Island, he took time to have a gathering with the Chairman of RW 03, Harapan Island Urban Village, Thousand Islands Regency. He would also stay overnight before returning to Jakarta tomorrow.

"Today, we are back to visit Sabira Island. It is a count of kilometers closer to mainland Sumatera than Java. But, this is the Jakarta area," he expressee, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Friday (4/30).

Sabira Island Residents Extremely Needs Signal Booster

"Because of that, I often say, the count of kilometers could be far from Monas, but InsyaAllah our feelings and bonds of togetherness are very strong and close. Moreover, we will spend the night here, hang out, chat, and return to Jakarta tomorrow," he furthered.

After the gathering, he went straight to the salted fish drying place and continued to the Solar Power Plant (PLTS), which was inaugurated since last November 2020. This PLTS supplies the electricity needs of Sabira Island, in addition to diesel power plants.

"We visited the PLTS facility, at that time it was a collaboration between PLN. Alhamdulillah, with this PLTS, the use of diesel power plants can be reduced by 50 percent, making it more efficient," he added.

Further, he emphasized that the need for electricity was a basic need that should be met. Previously, Sabira residents could only enjoy electricity for 14 hours per day, and since his arrival in 2019, they had been able to access electricity for 24 hours per day, thus helping them in their daily activities.

"Again, this is part of an effort to meet the basic needs of the people. So, they can live on the island but basic services must be provided as well as possible," he stated.
