Motor Dilarang Melintas HI-Medan Merdeka Barat

No Special Lane Provided in Motorcycle Ban

Jakarta Provincial Government confirmed will not provide special lane for motorcycle along HI Roundabout-Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat in correlation to the implementation of ban for motorcycle passing in the area. This policy starts effective in mid December 2014.

The policy applies to public in general, no exception. The purpose is clear, to press the number of motorcycle accidents

“The policy applies to public in general, no exception. The purpose is clear, to press the number of motorcycle accidents. As a start, the policy will be trialed first on the lane along HI Roundabout-Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, and then later applied in all protocol roads,” stated Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, Muhammad Akbar, Monday (11/17).

For couriers, Akbar continued, they can pass on artery roads or alternative routes, such as Jalan Abdul Muis, Jalan Fachruddin, Jalan Agus Salim, Jalan Mas Mansur, and Jalan Wahid Hasyim.

Motorcycle is Deadlier than Infectious Diseases

“The reason we do the trial on HI Roundabout-Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat is because of the alternative lanes and the transportation fleets there are ready,” he explained.

While for bikers who do not want to pass on alternative lanes, Akbar urged them to park their vehicles in office buildings around the trial location. Afterwards, they can continue their trips using free city tour double-decker bus.

“At this time there are only five buses, but it will be added five more units this year,” he said.
