City Anticipates Grave Subsidence in Rorotan Public Cemetery

Jakarta Government was quick in anticipating grave subsidence at Rorotan Public Cemetery (TPU), North Jakarta. Through City Park and Forestry Agency, soil compaction and checking on grave plots are carried out routinely to prevent it from sinking.

Every time we find sinking grave, we immediately fix it by compacting the soil

"Every time we find sinking grave, we immediately fix it by compacting the soil. Recently, there were 10 sinking graves on the east side, but the condition was not serious and personnel immediately fix the grave plots," explained Suzi Marsitawati, Head of Jakarta City Park and Forestry Agency, on Wednesday (9/1), as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.

According to her, grave subsidence occurs because coffins is collapsing. Thus her side will add and compact the soil in each grave plots.

"We will continue to minimize the potential for grave subsidence. Although it is a natural process, not only happen in COVID-19 grave yard, but also in public cemetery, especially graves that use coffins. Therefore, we will check the graves routinely," she stated.
