Motorcycle Ban, Bikers Can Rest Awhile

Jakarta Provincial Government will still apply the policy that bans motorcycle from passing on Jalan MH Thamrin until Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat starting upcoming mid-December. With this policy, bikers are forced to take a rest.

The policy’s solution is to force people (bikers) to take a break in the middle of their trips

“The policy’s solution is to force people (bikers) to take a break in the middle of their trips. We deliberately force them so they would not ride motorcycle all day,” stated Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ T Purnama, Wednesday (11/26).

For people who work as goods couriers and always passing along Jalan MH Thamrin and Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Ahok urged them to take alternative routes.

Motorcycle Restriction Applied on December 17

“You could use the access behind those roads, because we’re not closing the lanes behind,” he said.

According to Ahok, the important thing from this policy is for bikers to stop awhile and take the double-decker bus provided by Jakarta Transportation Department.

“At least, they have options to park their motorcycles anywhere they want, whether it is building or someone’s house, or to take a break,” he uttered.

About the potential of the emerging of illegal parking, Ahok admitted that it is not a problem.

“We’ll see. If the (illegal) parking did not block the road, we’ll close our eyes. But if it blocked the road, we will control it,” he asserted.
