Jakarta Culture Agency together with Indonesian Batik Foundation through Jakarta Art Museum Management Unit will hold batik exhibition on October 2-30. The exhibition that raised theme of 'Revealing the Symbolic Meaning of Batik Patterns in Pandemic
Era' took place at Textile Museum, Jalan KS Tubun, Kota Bambu Selatan Urban Village, Palmerah, West Jakarta. Jakarta Culture Agency Head, Iwan Henry Wardhana conveyed, batik is one of Indonesia's cultural heritages which is developing in Indonesia and several countries in the world. Techniques in making batik are still carried out traditionally using wax or candles.
He said that batik patterns have a deep philosophy related to human life, as it is in the current COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, about 100 pieces of batik cloth will be exhibited with various patterns, such as Tambal, Udan Liris, and Gringsing which are collections from Textile Museum, Indonesian Batik Foundation, and Indonesian batik collectors.

This event will be enlivened with several activities, such as Competition in Making Batik Patterns: Tambal, Udan Liris, and Gringsing on October 2-28.
Then, Batik Workshop on October 6, 14, and 27 for SMK students and Wastra Community in Jakarta; Indonesian Batik Webinar on October 8, 13, 15, 22, 28, and 30.
"Jakarta Culture Agency also continues to collaborate in preserving batik together with Indonesian Batik Foundation. Hopefully this activity can run well," he mentioned.
He assessed that efforts to preserve batik as Indonesian cultural heritage are shared responsibility of all Indonesian people.
