City Police: 9 Died During Zebra Operation

As many as 9 people died in the streets during the 2014 Zebra Jaya Operation that has been ongoing on for the last week in the capital.

There are 66 cases of traffic accidents. In details, 9 people died, 12 people had serious injuries and 45 people had minor injured

"According to our data, there are 66 cases of traffic accidents. In details, 9 people died, 12 people had serious injuries and 45 people had minor injured. As a result, the material loss estimated at Rp 221 million," expressed Chief of Public Relations City Police, Sr. Comr. Rikwanto, Friday (12/5).

Since it held since November 27-December 4, 2014, police managed to crack down 45,885 violations. In details, 38,878 out of vehilces are ticketed and 7,007 others reprimanded with persuasive approach. "From them, we confiscate 13,945 driving licenses (SIM), and 24,613 vehicle ownership papers (STNK)," he detailed.

Zebra Operation, 480 Vehicles Ticketed

He explained most of the controlled vehicles is dominated by motorcycles, followed by private cars and public transports. "For the violation, there are 28,004 motorcycles, 3,285 private cars, 2,914 mikrolet minibuses, 1,775 taxis, 1,558 goods public transports and 750 buses. There are also 606 motorcycles and 14 cars grounded," he told.

While the most frequent type of violation is contra flow with 8,000 cases and picking up and dropping off passenger 3,871 cases. "Probably, the case would keep increasing in future. The operation is imposed until December 9, 2014," he stated.
