With UK Minister, Governor Discusses Climate Challenges to Transport Cooperation

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan, held a meeting with UK International Trade Minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan, at the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia MRT Station, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/23).

We discussed the potential for collaboration between Jakarta and the UK in various climate-related programs

The meeting was to discuss collaboration programs related to climate and cooperation in the transportation sector, especially MRT Jakarta.

"We discussed the potential for collaboration between Jakarta and the UK in various climate-related programs, especially since Jakarta has a target to achieve zero emissions by 2050. Hope it can make Jakarta even more climate-resilient city," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

At that time, he was also discussing public transportation in Jakarta, especially about electrification of mass public transportation and the development of the Jakarta MRT route, with Jakarta Secretariat Economic Assistant, Sri Hayati; Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Syafrin Liputo; and PT MRT Jakarta Director, William Sabandar

"We intend to change the face of Jakarta from a city that is dominated by traffic jams and pollution to become a pioneer in providing safe, comfortable, inclusive, and sustainable public transportation. And now it is still under process, starting from making regulations, making breakthroughs in the integrated transportation system through JakLingko and now we also see the potential for electrification of the bus fleet. Moreover, we also get support from the UK Minister," he explained.

While for discussions related to the development of the MRT route, the Governor explained that there was potential for cooperation between PT MRT Jakarta and the UK, namely related to the construction of the East-west route.

"InsyaAllah, everything will go smoothly," he stated.

As for the information, the meeting ended after the Governor and the UK International Trade Minister took the MRT train from Bundaran HI Station to Dukuh Atas Station. Then, both also took the time to see the Kendal Tunnel and bought coffee at Difabis Coffee & Tea.
