2,800 Lanterns Enlighten Jakarta Lantern Festival

Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department will  hold Jakarta Lantern Festival (JLF) to improve the tourism and culture attraction and as appreciation to creative art development. The event will be held on upcoming December 12 to 14, 2014.

This first Lantern festival in Jakarta will be opened free for public starting from 6 PM to 10 PM

Jakarta Lantern Festival will show 2,800 lantern contains of 2,700 hanging lanterns, 105 decoration lanterns with various animal characters, fruits, and others. Besides that, there are 46 giant lanterns with size of 4 meter x 12 meters in various forms as dragon, ondel-ondel, Taj Mahal, 12 Shio forms, and others.

Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department (Disparbud) Head, Arie Budhiman said, the lantern festival is also held in some big cities over the world.

"There are some Lantern Festival held in big cities around the world as Seoul Lantern Festival, Yuan Xia Festival, Auckland Chinese Lantern Festival in New Zealand, Spring Lantern Festival in Hongkong, and other," Budhiman while contacted by beritajakarta.com, Sunday (12/7).

He added, Jakarta as the capital and metropolis city wants to be equal with other big cities over the world.

"For that, Disparbud Jakarta needs to create the popular creative event with local culture as the base to develop creativity art," he added.

"This first Lantern festival in Jakarta will be opened free for public starting from 6 PM to 10 PM," he disclosed.
