Jakarta Sets Tourism Business Operating Hours in Ramadan

Based on the result of isbat (confirmation) meeting, the Government has set the first day of Ramadan tomorrow, on Sunday (4/3). Related to this matter, the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Agency issued a Circular Letter No. e-0001/SE/2022 concerning Tourism Businesses Operating Hours in the Holy Month of Ramadan 1443 Hijri/2022 M.

"The regulation is issued to respect the Holy Month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, as well as for the common good. It regulates the type of business and operating hours during Ramadan," said Jakarta Parekraf Agency Head Andhika Permata, as quoted from Jakarta PPID's Press Release, Saturday (4/2).
The tourism industry is still allowed to operate with some adjustments and the types/sub-types of business must be closed on:

B. D-1 of Eid Al-Fitr/Takbiran Night
C. The first and second days of Eid al-Fitr
D. D+1 of Eid al-Fitr
E. The Night of Nuzulul Qur'an
The operating hours for family karaoke businesses were from 14.00 to 21.00 during Ramadan.
Meanwhile, bars/pubs in separate buildings and having karaoke or live music were not allowed to sell alcoholic beverages during Ramadan, unless integrated with at least a 4-star hotel.
Besides the operating hours, the letter also regulates provisions for tourism business implementation.
The following are the regulations related to tourism business implementation that apply during Ramadan:
- Not allowed to put up billboards/posters/publications/film containing pornographic, pornoaction, and erotic;
- Not allowed to cause disturbance to the environment
- Not allowed to provide gifts in any form and type
- Not allowed to provide opportunities for betting/gambling, drug misuse, and trafficking
- Must respect/maintain a conducive atmosphere during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr
- Require every employee and encourage visitors to dress modestly
He added that sanctions would be given for every violation, from administrative sanction to revocation of tourism business registration mark for businesses that violate the provisions.
"Hopefully, tourism entrepreneurs in Jakarta follow the regulations that have been set thus Jakarta remains comfortable and conducive during Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr," he stated.
