Christmas Homecomers Crowd Gambir Train Station

On regular days, the number of passengers is about 8,000-9,000, but it began to increase since Saturday and Tuesday

The Jakarta Public Relation's Operational Region (Daop) 1 reported that the number of train passengers in some train stations began to increase ahead of Christmas and New Year 2015, especially at Gambir Train Station, Central Jakarta. Majority of the homecomers plan to go to Central Java, Yogyakarta, Semarang, East Java, Madiun, Surabaya and Malang.

"On regular days, the number of passengers is about 8,000-9,000, but it began to increase since Saturday and Tuesday. Predictably, its peak would happen on December 28, 2014 due to school holidays and New Year 2015," said Head of Jakarta Public Relation's Daop 1, Agus Komarudin, Wednesday (12/24).

Komarudin added Christmas and New Year holiday is different with Eid ul Fitr holiday. During Eid ul Fitr, all train seat certainly filled, but 50 percent during returning flow. As for the Christmas and New Year, all seats are full on departure day and 80 percent during returning flow.

"The peak of returning flow is predicted to happen on January 3-4, 2015, because school will be re-active on January 5," he expressed.

Additionally, the number of police and army personnel are also added to safeguard every station. It is intended to create security and comfort to passengers. "Usually every station has 18 personnel, but it will be increased 24 personnel of army and police in the Christmas and New Year. They are divided into three shifts," he finished.
